For the Love of God

The Shiite sect of Islam, on a certain day called Ashoura on the Islamic Calender, celebrate the day the grandson of the prophet Mohammed was killed. They do so by cutting themselves in the head and making the blood flow all over thier body to commomerate the day. This picture was taken in the Lebanese Bekaa in the mainly Shiite city of Nabatieh.

Note: Some people in the sect still follow this tradition, while other people from the same sect have stopped this tradition. Some people like Hizbullah in Lebanon have opted to donate blood to blood banks instead of doing this act. It is also important to note that some people from the sect also denounce this act.
